I've noticed over the years certain literary authors becoming friends with music artists and building off of each others art.
Tori and Neil Gaiman buddied it up for making suttle refences to each other in their respective works before Amanda Palmer came along and stole his heart. Rasputina gave their respects to Gaiman on the tribute album but who do you think could be fun for Melora to be artisticly allied with in the literary world?
I think my vote goes to Susanna Clarke, authoress of the international bestseller Jonathan Strange and Mr Norell as well more recently the Ladies of Grace Adieu
I would suggest House of Leaves author Mark Danielewski but he seems to be more allied with kid sister and singer Poe.
Running with Scissors author Augusten Burroughs might also make a fun friend but he's more organic then metaphorical in his writings which I don't see converting well between Rasputina and the books. _________________ "There are two ways to which I work- When you need me but do not want me then I must stay. Hmmm... interesting idea.
I'm a big reader, though I quite prefer non-fiction to fiction. Most of the musicians typically pair up with fiction writers (though, given the frequent historical background of many Rasputina songs, non-fiction authors would probably work just as well/better).
Mary Roach is kind of funny/dark/quirky for a non-fiction writer, having tackled the topics of death (cadavers as crash test dummies, head transplants & body-snatching!), sex (sex!) & ghosts (ectoplasm! Patrick Swayze!) in her three books, Stiff, Bonk & Spook.
..though I'm not sure that she's the best option.
I'm going to think on this one a bit more for a while. |

well I'm sure writers of past lore probably serve as good inspiration for Melora, and I bet if you looked closely enough at the lyrics you could find correlations and symbolism towards Emily Dickinson, Edna St.Vincent Millay and even Sylvia Plath, and I'm sure that would make a great term paper to write one day (notes to self), it would thus only be a one way flowing stream of inspiration.
Icons like Tori and Gaiman and Poe and Mark Danielewski were mutually inspirational and referenced each other in their works.
So friendship in dead authors would defeat purpose.
Do you get the jist of it now? _________________ "There are two ways to which I work- When you need me but do not want me then I must stay. When you want me but do not need me then I must go." |

Ladies and gentlemen I think I may have found a solution to this problem-
Carlton Mellick III
author of such dramatic titles as 'Adolf in Wonderland', 'The Baby Jesus Butt Plug' and 'the Haunted Vagina'.
These are real titles I shit you not. _________________ "There are two ways to which I work- When you need me but do not want me then I must stay. When you want me but do not need me then I must go." |
